Investigation of high-barrier materials development for long shelf-life dairy-based products with enhanced properties

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Förpackningslogistik

Sammanfattning: This thesis has been pursuing an objective to investigate the recent developments in the field of high oxygen barrier materials for the dairy based medical nutrition portfolio. The main goal of this research was to identify the materials and/or approaches that would allow the decrease of oxygen ingress with resulting shelf-life extension. Both flexible (pouch) and rigid (bottles) packaging has been evaluated. Based on the findings of the research, the list of selected materials has been created, followed by the preliminary evaluation of materials’ suitability as an alternative for current packaging solutions. All evaluations have been conducted based on oxygen barrier performance, expressed in oxygen transmission rate (OTR, cm3/ package/day).
