Sammanfattning: Aim The aim of this study was to examine the views on bullying in the context of physical education among pupils studying at intermediate level through a gender perspective. The following questions where used in the examination. In what ways does the views on bullying differ between girls and boys? How is bullying manifested during classes in physical education? How do girls and boys experience cross-gender and same-gender bullying? Method The study is based upon a survey with questions of both quantitative and qualitative disposition. A total of 210 pupils from areas in and around Stockholm participated in the study, all studying at intermediate level. The participants consisted of 92 girls and 116 boys (two declined). The selection of participating schools where made out of convenience. The schools partaking were schools which students from the Swedish school of Sport and health science had a relationship to. The present study emanates from a gender theory constructed by Hirdman and Gannerud.  Results The result of this study shows that girls reckon that bullying takes place during a longer period and at multiple occasions, apart from this there is no bigger differences in the view of bullying among girls and boys. Both genders state that bullying in physical education takes place during ball game activities and in the changing rooms before and after classes. An overriding perspective shows that both boys and girls consider bullying between girls to be psychological bullying through ostracism, rumour mongering and body language. Boys abuse others through physical violence like threatening, punching and kicking. Conclusion We can see an over-all difference in that boys are more frequent bullies than girls. Our hypothesis was confirmed, finding that girls bully by psychological measures and boys by physical. Our hypothesis was furthermore confirmed as our results show that same-gender bullying is considered more usual than cross-gender.
