Sammanfattning: Presenting an overview of three theories of motivation, this study aims to connect types of motivation to the types of salaries in the Swedish construction field. The workers in this field went on a strike emerging froma conflict with the collective agreements in 2016 in the industry between the trade union Byggnads, and representations from the companies within the industry, Byggföretagen. The issues of the strike were many but the issue concerning salaries was that one part wants to apply performance salary and the other wants time pay for construction workers. This paper conducted a survey between the employees’ external and internal motivation, it was concluded that the internal motivation is higher for time pay salaries and an indication that external motivation is higher for performance salary. There was also a significant connection between how many years you’ve worked in the industry and a lower rate of internal motivation.
