Montenegros ekonomiska samarbete med Kina – en säkerhetsfråga eller en politisk och ekonomisk möjlighet?
Sammanfattning: This thesis aims to provide a ”local” perspective on Montenegros own understanding of the country’s economic cooperation with China, within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. With a lack of discourse analysis and no case study with Montenegro as a case within the research on Belt and Road Initiative, this thesis also intends to cover this specific gap. Based on the purpose of the thesis, the following research question was formulated: How can the discourse on Montenegro's economic cooperation with China be understood in the light of the Prime Ministers Đukanović's and Marković's speeches from 2015 and 2018 respectively? The discourse in these two ”speech acts” was analyzed using four of Carol Lee Bacchi's questions from the WPR method. The statements in the speeches were then interpreted and explained by using Malgorzata Jakimóws theory ”Desecuritisation as a Soft Power Strategy”. Key findings in the analysis shows that the language used by the Montenegrian Prime Ministers was desecuritised. This suggests that Montenegro sees the country's economic cooperation with China as a political and economic opportunity rather than a threat.
