Programmering – Ett nytt redskap i den pedagogiska verktygslådan.

Sammanfattning: Programming is a topic that will be added to the Swedish curriculum in the near future. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of programming in school before the addition to the curriculum has been implemented. The research questions underlying this study are: what purpose do teachers have when teaching programming? Do teachers feel that the students' learning has been influenced by the introduction of programming in the teaching? This study has a qualitative approach. The data for this study has been collected through a web based survey with 75 respondents and through a semi-structured interview with 11 informants. The data has been analyzed using a quilitative content analysis to locate different themes. The result of the study shows that teachers 'purpose of using programming in teaching is partly as an educational tool that is used interdisciplinary to attract students' interest and motivation through creative creation processes. But also as a way to make the students a part of society by attracting more people who are interested in the area and eventually want to work in the field. However, the results are divided and there is a risk that there is no common view about programming, which does not make it an equivalent school.
