Cykelparkering vid bostaden - En studie av Malmöcyklisternas behov och preferenser

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the needs and preferences of cyclists when it comes to bicycle parking at the residence. Although knowledge of bicycle traffic is growing and the Swedish Transport Administration states that bicycle traffic needs to be emphasized, the importance of bicycle parking is often overlooked, especially in residential areas. This thesis shows that good bicycle parking is key in order to achieve a well-functioning bicycle network. If the bicycle parking in question does not meet the needs of the cyclists they won’t use it correctly. Furthermore, the thesis indicates that people will bike more often if bicycle parking in general is improved. Studies show that high bicycle parking capacity is the most important factor followed by frame locking, weather protection, inside parking and good lighting. The conclusion of this thesis is that there is a great need of a manual explaining how good bicycle parking at the residence is designed. This would not only make it harder for housing companies to ignore the importance of good bicycle parking, but also help making the city's residential bicycle parking more uniform, which makes it easier for cyclists to recognize and use them correctly.
