Sammanfattning: July 1, 2018 wasthe sexual consent law introduced with the aim of giving consent in the event of a consensus for all individuals. Today, women are characterized as being vulnerable to men's sexual violence, where men are overrepresented in the suspicions of sexual offences in sweden. For that reason, we intended this study to pay attention to, and raise women's voice in society. Our study describes women's attitudes and knowledge about the law of consent act in the Swedish society. We have tried to understand the attitudes and knowledge that emerged from the study through the theoretical concepts of gender, powerand norms. We have also examined whether women's experiences of sexual violence in close relationships have had an impact on their attitudes about the law of consent. From our understanding, attitudes about men and women's different positions of power in society are a contributing factor to why men's violence against women today is a major social problem. Through the theoretical concepts and the gathered informations on women's attitudes, we now understand that there needs to be a change in society's norms to implement consent within intercourse. The law of consent act needs to function as a norm in society that is followed by both men and women, for the law to contribute to change and to counteract the imbalance of power and increase equality.
