The main focus in this essay has been to investigate the portrayal of honour-related violence in the prosecutor’s office handbook from an intersectional perspective and the strenghts or shortcomings with their depiction of the violence. One of the conclusions drawn regarding gender were that the depiction of men as having a natural relation to violence reproduces the norm of the man as violent. An other conclusion regarding the other category ethnicity was that inequalities get reproduced through unintentional power abuse when the prosecutor’s office description of the violence helps to consolidate racial conceptions of victims and offenders in honour-related violence. Strenghts regarding the description of the violence were few, but one of the strenghts were the nuanced and broad description of the violence as connected to patriarchal power structures in the family. One of the shortcomings were the separation of honour-related violence from other kinds of violence against women by invoking race and cultur in theb description, giving the patriarchal gender relations less significance in understanding the violence.
