Värdmoderskapsprocessen genom medias ögon - En kvalitativ studie om medias framställning av tilltänkta föräldrars väg till barn genom värdmödraskap
Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to examine how media in Sweden presents the surrogacy process with the purpose of enhancing knowledge of what ideals and challenges are framed through the intended parents perspective. The empirical material of this study consist of 19 articles that depict the intended parents stories of having been through the surrogacy process, which have been collected from different Swedish newspapers. The analysis is based on a qualitative content analysis with a conventional approach, social constructivism and terms of power has been applied as theoretical approaches and supplemented the analysis. The study shows that medias representation of the surrogacy process contains several aspects that appear to be essential and important for the process. Particularly prevalent are the representation of challenges when the intended parents meet the Swedish healthcare, but also other authorities and especially the agencies that manages the surrogacy process. Economical and legal aspects are also portrayed in a similar manner. A slight focus in fewer articles is also given to the surrogacy mother and her family to highlight and represent their perspective. The conclusion of the analysis is that media constructs and frames primarily the parts of the process that the parents have experienced as significant, partly what has been important and tough practically but also emotionally. For example having to pay larger amounts than expected from the start and having to go trough the process while living with the thought that something might go wrong.
