Sammanfattning: Flexible parking requirements have been introduced in several Swedish city governments in recent years. Through qualitative interviews with traffic engineers, learnings from these years have been compiled and then compared with a literature review. The flexibility de-sign and required mobility management measures varies from detailed to free, and results show that different engineers prefer different designs. Most mobility management measures required by cities are proven to reduce car ownership and use. Most cities have linked their parking requirements to environmental and transportation goals. Flexible parking requirements are commonly used and have, according to the interviewees, reduced the number of parking spaces by approximately 20 percent. However, some wish they could allow higher reductions. Few cities have completed more than a few developments since adopting flexible parking requirements and only one completed car-free develop-ment has been found. The question of follow-up is either not yet dealt with or not as good as expected, but the need for follow-ups might be overestimated. Most interviewees expect parking requirements to remain the main instrument to regulate parking supply. However, all fields of parking management such as public and private parking levies, curb parking and general mobility management measures must be included to accomplish greater park-ing space reductions and reduced car dependency.
