Sammanfattning: Since the resolution made in Paris during the COP21 conference in 2015, governments have been hard at work implementing new regulations accordingly. Regional authorities in Sweden has been given the task of managing and constructing strategies in the field of energy and environmental policies. This thesis aims at analysing the potential for the county of Halland to become a sustainable and renewable region in the longer term as well as to achieve the objectives of the Swedish government. It does so in cooperation with the representing regional authority, The County Administration Board in Halland, and their work form the basis of method for this paper.   The purpose of this paper has been to indicate, demonstrate and motivate a sustainable change in Halland and to describe what technical possibilities are available of implementation as of today.   Six main chapters constitutes the report and are structured in a way to cover contemporary theory, future opportunities and the author’s assumptions, opinions and suggestions of measures. The technical background and methodology in this paper has mostly consisted of studies of literature from sources within energy technology such as relevant authors, companies, authorities and research institutions.   The results show that by the year 2045, a massive expansion of renewable energy is both theoretically and practically feasible, whilst levels of greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by more at least two thirds compared to the levels of 2016.
