Sammanfattning: Abstract This study aimed to investigate and analyze how the issues of migration and refugee are represented in the Swedish daily and evening newspapers. This aimed to analyze what / which discourses emerge. This has been based on a social constructionist and post colonialist perspective with discourse analysis as main method. Through a critical discourse analysis has articles from four newspapers Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter, Expressen and the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, written between 2004 and 2014 been analyzed. The empirical material has been categorized into three themes regarding how the migration and refugee issues are constructed. Those themes were "migration and refugee from an economic perspective", "migration and refugee from a security and political perspectives, and" migration and refugee from a socio-cultural perspective ". During the analysis, could two dominant discourses be distinguished namely a discourse of threat and a discourse of solidarity. The analysis also showed that discourse of threat was the dominant discourse and could even be found in the solidarity-oriented discourse, which means a low interdiscursivity and reproduce the prevailing order of discourse. The prevailing order of discourse shows that the social order is based on the post-colonial power structure. The results also demonstrated that the analyzed newspapers produce and reproduce elite discourse and excludes refugees- and immigrant perspective. In that way, the media contributes to normalize the unequal power relations and to maintain the already existing social order. This enables social practices such as discrimination, exclusion and cultural racism.
