Stadens gröna hjälpredor - En studie om ekosystemtjänster och hur dessa kan användas i planeringen av urban grön infrastruktur, fallet Lindholmen

Sammanfattning: When cities become denser there is a growing risk for downgrading of the social and ecological aspects of sustainability on behalf of exploitation of grey infrastructure. This could lead to a lower quantity as well as quality of the urban green infrastructure, which means a negative effect for the social and ecological sustainability in the city. To counteract this downgrading and include the social and ecological aspects of sustainability, ecosystem services can be a tool to integrate into the planning of green infrastructure. The aim of this thesis is therefore to increase the understanding of how integration of ecosystem services in the planning of urban green infrastructure can contribute to a more resilient and socially sustainable urban environment in a local context. This is partly examined by doing a mapping of regulating and cultural ecosystem services in Lindholmshamnen where the method is evaluated, partly through document studies and an informant interview to see how the City of Gothenburg work with green infrastructure and ecosystem services in the area.The results of this thesis show that multiple regulating and cultural ecosystem services can be identified in Lindholmshamnen, but that there is still potential for development. Furthermore, the study leads to an analysis that the used type of detailed mapping can be difficult to apply to larger scales, as when mapping an entire city. However, it can still be used as a tool at smaller scales. Mapping ecosystem services also contributes to the visibility of the internal relationship of ecosystem services such as synergies and trade-offs, which can enable planning to influence the quality of green spaces for the better. The study also shows other ways in which ecosystem services as a concept can be used as a tool in the planning of urban green infrastructure, for example as an economic argument.
