Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Umeå universitet/Institutionen för kultur- och medievetenskaper

Sammanfattning: This paper analyses the process of achieving a subject of being in a posthuman character named Murderbot from the books called The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Science Fiction doesn’t have a natural place in Sweden academic discourse because it’s looked upon as a lesser form of literature. But science fiction has a lot to offer in form of philosophy thought questions and predictions about the future. The purpose of this paper is to analyse if Murderbot can achieve a subject and if so, what is hindering the development or what is promoting it. Posthumanism theory and foremost theorist Donna Haraways theories thoughts about the cyborg and Katherin Hayles ideas of the splice and bodily matter. The Posthumanism theory is here used as an opening to new perspectives of subject beings, bodily matter and on how to make connections to the outside world as well as connections to the inside body. The paper concludes that in some way Murderbot is obtaining a position of subjectivity through meetings with persons and robots but also through a degree of bodily integrity.
