Sammanfattning: Title: "What are your thoughts on the activities they offer where you live?" - A study of individualized activities in nursing homes Supervisor: Yvonne Johansson Assessor: Elizabeth Martinell Barfoed The aim of this study is to find out what elderly people themselves think about the activities offered at their nursing homes and how much they consider them being adapted for them. The study is also meant to find out how a municipality works to individualize the activities in the nursing homes. The results are based on survey responses from residents in four nursing homes in a municipality and interviews with the four branch heads from the same nursing homes. According to a survey done by the social services and answered by the elderly people living in nursing homes there are a big number of people that don’t feel like they have the possibility to influence the daily activities and therefore do not feel pleased with the activities they offer. The results of the study show that the residents who feel they have greater opportunity to influence the range of activities provided also generally feel more pleased with the provided activities. They also show that the kind of activity the residents generally wanted most is simple things. Things like to be out on a stroll or to just have someone to talk to.
