Sammanfattning: Abstract The dog meat eating custom has been a tradition in China since several hundred years. Nowadays this practise is discussed and questioned in Chinese society and also in Chinese social media among the public opinion. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how this topic is described in the Chinese newspaper People’s Daily. My conclusion is mainly based on a comparative analysis of articles from two different periods, 2014.03.01 - 2014.07.30 and 2019.03.01 - 2019.07.30. The result of this study shows that the dog meat question got much more attention during 2014. Most articles have been critical to the annual controversial dog meat eating festival ”Yulin gourou jie” 玉林狗肉节, ”Yulin dog meat festival”, held in the south of China. This festival or tradition - to eat dog meat and lychee during the summer solstice - caused conflicts and negative reactions within China but also abroad. To minimize focus on this topic the newspaper probably has chosen to stop the discussion and not publish any articles in 2019. This study was based on 30 articles from 2014 and 10 articles from 2019.
