Antifeministiska röster i en digital tid : Kollektiv identitet i ett misogynt forum på Reddit
Sammanfattning: This study aims to gain further knowledge in the formation of collective identity inside a group on the discussion platform Reddit. Taking a particular focus on the antifeminist subreddit Men Going Their Own Way. The group has been approached using observational methods. With Alberto Melucci's theoretical model over collective identity questions that are aligned with the model’s three parts have been constructed for this particular study. These have then been used when analyzing the data. The findings show that the specific group uses an internal language consisting of both concepts and visual artefacts when members communicate with each other inside the group. It also shows that the group's mutual goal derives from a perception of oppression in the wider public. Furthermore the organisational structure inside the group allows moderators to punish members when breaking the rules. The emotions expressed between the group members are at times those of worry and hate. There is also a discrepancy between what group members see as their ideal emotional state, and what the reality actually looks like. Melucci’s model helps to understand the different components that make up their collective identity. Lastly there is the interesting aspect of that even if the outside world does not see this group as an oppressed one – the fact that they themselves do make for an argument that they could potentially be studied the same way as traditionally oppressed counterpublics have been.
