Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to interpret and understand how Caribbean music talks about women and if it can affect gender and social norms. The study reflects on how music affects us and how relevant it may be to have knowledge about it in social work. The study was based on Caribbean music where the analysis was conducted on lyrics from soca and dancehall music. Observations were also conducted to verify the results from the analysis made on the music lyrics. The analysis was based on gender theory and through this it could be identified that the lyrics of Caribbean music contains gender systems, sexual- and objectification themes and that it can also be a part of maintaining society standards and gender norms. The observations gave a verification of the results as gender systems could be notable on the sites.
