Sammanfattning: Corruption is a very broad definition which is not easy to define. It happens due to the phenomenon’s complexity and its many different forms and syndromes. Before fighting corruption it is therefore necessary to find its roots and form. Furthermore, many countries aspire today for a better democracy but find visible barriers on their ways in a form of corruption i.a. Albania, a European country, which intends to follow path towards the European Union.   The aim of this thesis is to provide for a reader a contextual presentation and identification of Albania’s corruption syndrome and the country’s way of fighting this negative phenomenon. For the identification of Albania’s corruption I used Michael Johnston’s analysis and his categorisation of Albania and its belonging to the group ”Oligarchs and Clans” which is a corruption syndrome with its typical symptomes. For strategies against corruption I used some aspects written by professor Claes Sandgren, which also have been emphasized from other scientists. Finally I applied this information on Albania’s situation to answer my questions. The results show that Albania still has the “Oligarch & Clan” – corruption syndrome and has done some reforms and changes that have reduced corruption. Nevertheless Albania still has much to overcome and improve in its overall system in order to come closer to the European Union and finally become its member, which so far has not brought good results.
