Bland mutkolvar och idealister: En fältstudie om varför politiker i Nicaragua är korrupta och hur förhållandet mellan ojämlikhet, tillit och korruption ser ut.

Sammanfattning: This thesis is a Case study based on the Corruption Problematic in the Central American country Nicaragua. This study intends to find answers to why politicians in Nicaragua resort to corruptive acts and if a link between trust, inequality and corruption exists. The methodological approach is in-depth interviews with eight national Politicians in Nicaragua, made during a field study in Nicaragua in November 2015. The material is analysed through the lens of the theoretical framework The Inequality Trap, from Eric M. Uslaner’s book Corruption, Inequality and the Rule of Law. The result is that it does exist a link between trust, inequality and corruption. In addition, the result shows that politicians conduct corruptive acts mainly because of the factors; structure of the political system, trust, inequality, education, the juridical system, the character of the politician, culture, poverty and power centralization. The result could be used to bring depth into the Research area of Corruption where statistical Research is dominant today.
