Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Institutionen för kulturgeografi och ekonomisk geografi

Sammanfattning: This essay investigates the underlying dimensions of crime prevention in the urban area Sofielund in Malmö Sweden through the lens criminological theories and models. The purpose was to determine what kind of methods are used, if there are differences in how they are presented in relation to crime prevention and if some forms of methods are more popular that others. Sofielund is used as an example due to its long history of issues related to crime and crime prevention. The study was conducted through critical analysis of documents and information which describe three selected initiatives in the area of research. The conclusion was that the crime prevention as a whole used methods of varying nature with clear ties to several different criminological models and perspectives. However looking at each initiative separately their preferences varied and predominantly combined methods of only one or two criminological models. Furthermore there were noticeable contrasts in how methods stemming from different criminological perspectives were presented and connected to crime prevention. Certain forms of methods were consistently presented only vaguely referencing crime which might undermine their significance in relation to crime prevention.
