Sammanfattning: The refugee crisis in 2015 resulted in larger classes, which in turn demanded increased resources in second language learning in Sweden. The purpose of the study is to investigate swedish for immigrants [SFI] teachers' experiences of the social interaction with their students, as well as potential difficulties that may arise at work. The social interaction can contribute to students' development of the Swedish language. The social interaction between SFI teachers and students is a relatively unexplored area of sociology. The previous research has focused on the verbal interaction and what it could look like for the students, in contrast to our study which focuses on a larger variation of interaction. The theoretical frame of reference of the study is based on Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism, as well as Goffman's theories of the dramaturgical perspective. The study is based on a qualitative study design, with interviews in focus. The result of this study shows what the social interaction between teachers and students might look like in SFI teaching. This study shows the importance of having a functioning social interaction between the individuals who interact, and how the social interaction can be expressed in the form of body language, symbols, images and finally verbal interaction.
