A qualitative study of voluntary work with women who are exposed to domestic violence, from a social constructionist perspective with focus on gender. Supervisor: Anders Östnäs The aim of this study was to try and create an understanding on how voluntary organization work with and reaches out to women who are exposed to domestic violence. This was based on a social constructionism perspective with a focus on gender. We have conducted semi-structured interviews where seven professionals within this field have been interviewed. These interviews were conducted in four different stages. The reason why we chose to interview these professionals from the chosen organizations was that we wanted an insight on how they work and their views on this type of problem. Concluded, the main result of the study was that this social problem is complex and that many affecting factors are linked. In order for the society to develop, it is important that we as humans view these aspects as a whole and avoid dividing them into different parts. We had three main questions for this study and the most essential conclusion was that society is constructed and everything occurs due to interactions between individuals. The voluntary organizations adapt their supporting aid with the underlying purpose of catering to the victim’s needs. Also, the confidentiality between authorities and the voluntary organizations should be reduced in order to develop further in domestic violence.
