Sammanfattning: The importance of sustainability is constantly increasing in today’s society and 2015 the United Nations adopted 17 global sustainable development goals (SDGs), summarized as the “2030 Agenda”. To achieve the 2030 Agenda all sectors must become involved which means that the Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) must contribute to this sustainability work. It is therefore important to map how the Swedish municipal FRS are implementing the 2030 Agenda. A literature study and an interview study were performed. Interviews were conducted with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) and municipal FRS in the metropolitan regions Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. The study aimed to map which of the SDGs the metropolitan regions' municipal FRS work towards and how the implementation is carried out, based on their mission under the Civil Protection Act (CPA, Swedish act 2003:778). The study also aimed to propose improvement measures for the FRS future involvement with the 2030 Agenda. The study has shown that the municipal FRS in the metropolitan regions’ just have begun to implement the 2030 Agenda and despite their recent introduction of SDGs and the lack of a clear mandate from MSB, the FRS are working towards most of the SDGs. The FRS involvement with the 2030 Agenda linked to CPA have been divided into a main SDG with two focus areas. SDG 11 - Sustainable cities and communities is identified as the main goal which all FRS work towards. Further, all SDGs with a connection to CPA have been categorized and divided into an “environmental” area and a “societal” area.
