Att förena de oförenliga: Är både vänster och högerradikala partier nationalistiska? En kvantitativ undersökning av europartiers nationalism.

Sammanfattning: This paper studies nationalism within radical europarties. Europarties are in turn parties at the European level which consist of multiple national parties. More specifically I am examining if nationalism can be found in both radical leftwing and rightwing europarties and if the nationalism increases the further out on the political spectrum the party position itself. Furthermore I study if there is a difference between the nationalism of the two movements. The hypotheses says that both movements got nationalism as a whole and territorial nationalism in them. The other hypotheses says that they instead differ on cultural, ethnic and economic nationalism. The theories which I use in my paper and base my hypotheses on are Jean Pierre Fayes horseshoe theory and theories about the concept of nationalism. The main material which I use consist of election manifestos from the different europarties. The conclusions which are finally drawn says that nationalism as a hole, territorial nationalism and economic nationalism are found in both movements. Ethnic nationalism is instead solely found in radical rightwing europarties. Due to statistical insignificance I couldn’t say that the same connection existed for cultural nationalism.
