Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay was to examine the causes of stress and psychosocial unhealth in organizations, and shed light on which organizational and managerial elements that can prevent unhealthy stress and aid to a good psychosocial environment. I looked into the characteristics of a "healthy" organization and investigated how the management can contribute to a good psychosocial environment and healthy co-workers. To answer my questions I studied literature on the subject. I fulfilled the study by adding four interviews in a psychiatric organization. I interviewed staff from four different professions and departments. An important stressor is when a person doesn’t fit into his or her environment. I discovered that stress is likely to occur in the work environment if there are individual feelings of high demands, lack of influence as well of social support. This is enhanced by temporary employments and organizational changes. A good management is one of the most important characteristics of a "healthy" organization. The supervisor should empower co-workers to participate in organizational affairs, and enable the employees to experience work satisfaction. Good management includes knowledge and interest in supervision, accessibility and a supportive attitude towards the co-workers.
