Sammanfattning: Global authorities and businesses around the world have come up with a joint climate goal, including strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to fight and reach the “1.5 degrees” goal in time. Norconsult, which is a consulting company that operates within social planning, and infrastructural design, is one of many modern companies that have initiated their own internal climate goals, focusing on reducing GHG emissions. Norconsult hopes to achieve climate neutrality by 2045. In order to reach this goal, multiple climate measures have to be made. In essence, about 70 % of Norconsult’s GHG emissions stem from their business trips and geological field surveys. Business trips to and from the field surveys have previously been completed according to the current standard, meaning transportation with the help of heavy trucks that carries both personnel, and drilling rigs. Alternative transportation methods which incorporate climate measures have been developed by Norconsult in an effort to combat the company’s GHG emissions. The climate measures that are incorporated in this master thesis are choice of vehicle and its fuel type, optimum route, optimum load weight, and eco-driving. The purpose of this thesis is thus to investigate the climate impact of Norconsult's previous, current and future transportation methods, and to analyze the possibilities or obstacles that exist for implementing these climate measures on a larger scale. To determine this, a literature study has been carried out combined with climate calculations according to a life cycle analysis (LCA) methodology. The GHG emission calculations have been carried out for a base scenario, and three scenarios for the alternative transportation methods. The base scenario corresponds to a business as usual scheme, with all transportation of personnel and drilling rigs carried into effect by a heavy truck. The three scenarios with climate measures include transportation of the drilling rig with a heavy truck, and transportation of personnel by car with different drivelines. Norconsult operates on three different mission types based on distance, namely local, regional, and long-distance. Climate calculations have been performed for each scenario as well as the different types of missions that Norconsult executes. The results from the climate calculations reveal that the amount of carbon dioxide equivalents per field survey performed can be 2 to 7 times less when using the alternative transportation methods as opposed to the current standard method.
