Kvinnorna som inte tröstas
Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to explore women’s experience regarding perineal tear caused by vaginal delivery by means of a psychological framework to immerse the understanding of the injury. In addition to experiences concerning physical changes, pain and body images, individual and environmental understanding regarding perineal tears was studied. Semi- structured interviews were applied with twelve female participants. Thematic analysis were implemented to analyze the collected data, which allowed the authors to distinguish nine different themes. The conclusions indicated that perineal tear induced pain, distress and physical limitations. Reduced mobility and pelvic floor dysfunctions evoked shame. Perineal tears affected sexual function and body image. Empathic care was considered to have an impact on the participant’s understanding regarding the injury. Understanding of the perineal tear induced feelings of being safe during contact with healthcare facilities. Healthcare tended to normalize, which contributed to marginalization regarding the experience from the participants. An insufficient dialog and understanding within social environment constrained women’s ability to reduce suffering caused by perineal tears. This study highlights the relevance of psychological care and support to obtain understanding regarding perineal tear and the effects following the injury.
