Sammanfattning: The demand for corporate information sharing and increased transparency in financial reporting is something that has grown lately. Due to the growing demand, the voluntary disclosure field has become very interesting to study. By finding explanations for what causes variations in corporate voluntary disclosure, there is an increased understanding of information gap and transparency.This study investigates how the company’s size, profitability, debt to equity ratio and Swedish ownership structure affect companies’ voluntary disclosure through the annual report. Swedish ownership structure is of interest as it is dominated by control ownership and the use of differentiated voting rights, which has not been examined earlier. All Swedish companies listed on the Nordic Large Cap in 2016 are included in the study. The study is quantitative, and the method used for evaluating voluntary disclosure is valuation index. Regression analyzes examine the relationships between the factors and voluntary disclosure. Theories that support the outcome of the study are principal-agency theory and insider-outsider systems.The study’s results highlight a strong positive correlation between the company’s size and voluntary disclosure. The larger the company, the more voluntary disclosure. A negative correlation between control ownership and voluntary disclosure is discovered. Companies with control ownership disclose less voluntary information through the annual report. At the same time companies with dispersed ownership voluntary disclose more.The results of the study are of interest to researchers and stakeholders. For stakeholders, it is important to know that the size and ownership structure affect the company’s voluntary disclosure. The ownership structure, which is measured through different ownership models, is a contribution from a new aspect to the field of research for voluntary disclosure.
