Leder en lyckad finansiering till en lyckad investering? : En studie om hur svenska equity crowdfundingföretag utvecklas efter en kampanj

Sammanfattning: Background: Small and medium-sized enterprises account for the majority of the companies in Sweden. After the financial crisis, external financing has become increasingly difficult and a new phenomenon has emerged called crowdfunding. Equity crowdfunding in particular is the form that has had the strongest development rate in Sweden since 2012 and is a financial method exchanging capital for company shares. In Sweden, the largest platform for equity crowdfunding is FundedByMe and has been responsible for financing over 100 companies with a total amount of more than SEK 300 million. Problem: It has become more difficult for companies to obtain corporate finance and a modern form of equity crowdfunding has emerged in recent years. This has been studied in other countries to see how many companies that managed to put together a fully funded campaign. Subsequently, through financial data and statistics, a result has emerged. This has been studied in the US and other countries in Europe, but there are very few studies on equity crowdfunding done in Sweden. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the Swedish companies that have been fully financed through the equity crowdfunding platform FundedByMe and take into account their financial development based on relevant key figures. Method: A quantitative study which includes all 106 companies financed between the years 2013-2018 have been examined by a survey. A less but more concentrated group of companies between the years 2013-2016 have been studied through their crowdfunding campaigns and all their annual reports have been analyzed until the end of 2018. Conclusion: The majority of companies that seek funding through FundedByMe are companies providing services, companies that have a negative net income and a higher leverage ratio than the median in their own industry.
