  1. 1. The influence of temporal rainfall distribution and storm movement on flood depth in urban pluvial cloud burst modeling

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Författare :Michael Henrich; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Pluvial flooding; cloud burst; flood modeling; MIKE 21; temporal distribution; storm movement; areal reduction factors; ARFs; hyetograph; design storm; CDS; Pluviala översvämningar; skyfall; översvämningsmodellering; MIKE 21; regnmönstrets tidsfördelning; molnrörelse; areal reduktion av nederbörd; ARFs; hyetograph; typregn; CDS;

    Sammanfattning : Pluvial floods are the most difficult and to date least investigated phenomena in urban hydrology. While efforts are being made to increase the knowledge base concerning this type of flooding, a large part of the difficulty lies in the nature of the precipitation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Analysis of simulation of lightning in a cold-based convective storm

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Linus Karlsson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :lightning; lightning flash; lightning discharge; cold-based convective cloud; convective cloud; microphysics; microphysical specie; cloud electrification; storm cell; convective storm cell; severe weather; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : In this paper a simulation of a convective cell of a thunderstorm system observed 19th of June 2000 during the Severe Thunderstorm Electrification and Precipitation Study (STEPS) field campaign is being analysed. The storm system has been simulated with an Aerosol-Cloud model and the analysis is based on the output data. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Numerical Modelling of Convective Snow Bands in the Baltic Sea Area

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Julia Jeworrek; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Shallow convection; extreme precipitation; Baltic Sea; SST; regional climate system modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Convective snow bands develop commonly over the open water surface of lakes or seas when cold airgets advected from a continent. Enhanced heat and moisture fluxes from the comparatively warm waterbody trigger shallow convection and an unstable boundary layer builds up. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cloud Overlap Assumption and Cloud Cover Validation for HARMONIE-AROME

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Freja Söderberg; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Cloud overlap assumption; HARMONIE-AROME; total cloud cover; SYNOP observations; MSG-data; Molnöverlappsantagande; HARMONIE-AROME; total molnmängd; SYNOP-observationer; MSG-data;

    Sammanfattning : One major challenge in representing the state of the atmosphere through weather forecast models, is the parametrization of sub-grid clouds. At every vertical column of grid cells within a weather forecast model, the fractional cloud cover is assumed to overlap according to a prescribed Cloud Overlap Assumption (COA). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hybrid Rainfall Estimates from Satellite, Lightning and Ground Station Data in West Africa

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Henrik Enbäck; Charlotta Eriksson; [2015]
    Nyckelord :rainfall estimates; West Africa; lightning; satellite; nederbördsestimat; Västafrika; blixtar; satellit;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the working population in Ghana are farmers. It is of importance for them to know where and when precipitation will occur to prevent crop losses due to droughts and floodings. In order to have a sustainable agriculture, improved rainfall forecasts are needed. One way to do that is to enhance the initial conditions for the rainfall models. LÄS MER
