Sammanfattning: This study examines implicit and explicit attitudes towards women in Sweden and the connection between these. The sample consisted of men and women (N = 62) of different ages and professional positions in Sweden. To capture the participants' implicit associations, the Implicit Association Test (IAT) was used. The IAT aims to measure people’s automatic and spontaneous implicit associations. Explicit attitudes were measured via the Swedish modern sexism scale. The modern sexism scale is designed to measure sexism in a Nordic context. The results demonstrated that both men and women associated women more positively than men, and a significant result showed that women prefer their ingroup over their outgroup but men showed no preference for either group, lastly men showed a higher degree of modern sexism compared to women. The IAT and the Swedish modern sexism scale did not correlate significantly. In summary, the study indicates that the implicit associations towards women did not show negative associations, but that the modern sexism scale showed that modern sexism is still applicable in Sweden. Furthermore, it is important that research continues to be conducted in this area in order to increase understanding of the attitudes towards women but also the modern sexism and why it occurs, in the hope of a more equal future.
