Sammanfattning: This essay seeks to examine the expansion of charging infrastructure for electric cars in the Swedish city of Kalmar. The municipality of Kalmar will be at the centre of this study given their role as the governing body responsible for the development of the city. Discourse analysis will be used to examine texts published by the municipality in which charging infrastructure is discussed. The power relations between the different actors involved will also be investigated. The reasons given for the current and near future geographical distribution of charging infrastructure in the city is one of the questions this study aims to answer. The importance placed on charging infrastructure compared to other forms of transport or potential fuel sources for vehicles will be another question this essay will investigate.   This study found that the municipality had placed large emphasis on private companies in regard to the expansion of charging infrastructure in the city. Areas where the chargers are to be built are often more densely populated and central as more people can use them, thus making them more profitable. It should also be noted that the municipality has set a goal to overall reduce the use of cars in the city. Walking, bikes and public transport are going to be prioritized as the municipality has created a unique framework for what can be considered viable modes of transport to achieve sustainable development. Cars, regardless of if they are electric or not will remain an integral part of the transports in the city, although to a reduced extent.
