Sammanfattning: According to Swärd m.fl (2022), language is the key to all other learning. It is also an important prerequisite for interaction and interaction between children who need to develop in the best possible way. The more educators who work with the children's language development and vocabulary, the more linguistically aware the children become. It is important that the children have a vocabulary of 8–10,000 words before starting school to cope with the school language Swärd m.fl (2022). When children can command language at will and can pronounce most sounds, a good foundation has been laid for the formal reading and writing instruction that begins in grade 1. The first step in language development is learning new words and understanding what the words mean. It is then of great importance to read aloud to the children in the activities of the preschool and to read different kinds of books. The reading aloud must take place regularly, where different kinds of books are chosen, so that the children will encounter different words (Swärd m.fl (2022). In this qualitative development work, we will look at how the pedagogues of two departments read to the children instead of with the children. We will also gain new knowledge and insights about reading with the children to promote their language development. With the help of observations, reflections, and research, we will gain knowledge and insight into the importance of reading aloud for children's language development.
