Miljönyttan med att dumpstra : En livscykelanalys av återvinning och användning av matavfall från livsmedelsbutiker i Uppsala

Detta är en Uppsats för yrkesexamina på grundnivå från Uppsala universitet/Industriell teknik

Sammanfattning: The high level of food waste is a problem that arises along the production of food and is a contribution to climate change. Tons of food is unneccessary produced and in supermarkets large amounts of food that is perfectly edible is thrown away, because they are considered not salable. A lot of the food waste is still of good quality and possible to re-use. The gain of recycling food waste to its intended purpose as food has risen the interest of this project. A life cycle analysis has been made to evaluate the environmental impact of dumpster diving of food waste instead of process it with anarobic digestion, composting or incineration. Three scenarios of dumpster diving has been studied based on three variations of food consumption. The study clearly shows how the food production has a high impact on our environment and that by replacing the consumpsion of food by food waste from dumpster diving gives a very positive effect on the environment. Anarobic digestion and incineration are equally good as recycling options, but can not even nearly compensate for the enviromental impact caused by the food production. Composting is the worst option of the studied scenarios because the product from the process can't ́t compensate for the emissions from the production. Keywords: Food waste, Waste mangement, Dumpster diving, Anarobic digestion, Incineraton, Composting.
