The data collection was transcribed and analyzed through a qualitative research method. The results were presented in two themes; motivation factors, and the importance of  the teacher. Within motivational factors there are the categories of belonging, competence and self-determination.  The students have previously felt insecure but today feel that they feel safe and accepted. The students previously experienced a lack of competence, while the students today feel competent. In the past, they saw the content of the teaching as  forced, but today they experience greater choice. It is also clear that the physical education teacher plays an important role in the student's motivation.  What appears in the study is that the three psychological needs competence, belonging and self-determination have a central role in increased motivation. The students felt that cohesion in the class, feeling competent, choices and the physical education teacher are important factors for their motivation. It also emerged that in the past students were only driven by external motivation, to get attendance or grades, to today being driven by both internal and external motivation. The grades are important to the students, but they also experience a sense of meaning in the teaching of physical education and health.
