Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Hållbar vardag och hälsa i ett livsperspektiv; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper

Sammanfattning: Background: Meaningful activities are interconnected with health and well-being. When people age or their circumstances for engaging in occupations change, a loss of meaningful activities can occur, leading to illness. Older people may not only lose the ability to perform occupations but may also find that their circumstances for engaging in occupations change when the home environment and nursing home become integrated. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore which occupations older people in a nursing home perceive as meaningful. Method: This study explores the perceptions seven participants had of meaningful occupations through semi-structured interviews. Participants responded to questions about their lives and everyday living at the nursing home. Data was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Activities regarding social participation, being outdoors, walks and relaxing activities emerged as meaningful activities among the participants. These activities lead the participants to well-being, engagement, positive emotions, community with others and being able to continue to feel belonging to society. This by keeping up to date on what is happening in the outside world. Conclusion: Participants perceived well-being and health when the retirement home could accommodate the meaningful activities.
