1. Assessing the Eco-efficiency of Swedish Crop Farms and the Role of Subsidies : a Directional Distance Function Approach
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of EconomicsSammanfattning : The agriculture sector’s contribution to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and its increasing vulnerability to the effects of climate change warrants assessments considering not only on-farm productivity but also the industry’s environmental sustainability. Utilizing the concept of eco-efficiency, this study analyzes the environmental performance of Swedish crop farms by incorporating farm-level GHG emissions as an undesirable output in the production function. 2. Eco-efficiency, Institutions, and Political Orientation : A case study of the European Union
Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/NationalekonomiSammanfattning : This thesis uses the stochastic frontier analysis to estimate efficiency scores for the 28 member countries of the European Union between 2000 and 2019. The material footprints of biomass, non-metallic minerals, metals and fossil fuels are taken as input goods, unlike comparable work, as the overuse of materials is the cause of our current environmental problems. 3. MEASURING ECO-EFFICIENCY OF PRODUCTION IN OECD MEMBER COUNTRIES : A STOCHASTIC FRONTIER ANALYSIS
Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/NationalekonomiSammanfattning : This paper analyzed the eco-efficiency of 27 OECD member countries by using output-oriented Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) model. In the set-up of the model, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was used as a good output whereas Carbon dioxide (CO2), Sulphur dioxide (SO2) and Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions were used as bad outputs. 4. Energy Efficiency for Emerging Market Economies : A Panel Stochastic Frontier Analysis
Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/NationalekonomiSammanfattning : Using the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) model, this research measures total-factor energy efficiency (TFEE) for 21 emerging market economies (EMEs) by analyzing the panel data collected from World Bank indicators, which stretches from 1990 up to 2015. Capital stock, labor force, carbon dioxide, and gross domestic product (GDP) are input variables and energy use is used as the output variable, while renewable energy consumption and urban population are the environmental variables. 5. Off-farm income and technical efficiency of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia : a stochastic frontier analysis
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of EconomicsSammanfattning : As in most developing countries, agricultural production in Ethiopia is dominated by subsistence-based smallholder farmers, whose production and incomes from the sector are constrained by socio-economic, institutional, resource and environmental factors. These factors generally attribute for lower productivity of the sector, which in turn forces farmers to participate in off-farm activities in order to diversify their sources of income. LÄS MER
