1. Ecological impacts of dam removal in Swedish inland waters : Effects on water chemistry and fish demography
Master-uppsats, Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för hälsa, natur- och teknikvetenskap (from 2013)Sammanfattning : Dams play an important role in our society, but their negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems have led to a need for conservation efforts to mitigate the negative effects. In some instances, dam removal has been suggested to be the most economically and ecologically beneficial restoration method to improve longitudinal connectivity. LÄS MER
2. Estimation of dissolved organic carbon from inland waters using remote sensing data and machine learning
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : This thesis presents the first attempt to estimate Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) in inland waters over a large-scale area using satellite data and machine learning (ML) methods. Four ML approaches, namely Random Forest Regression (RFR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and a Multilayer Backpropagation Neural Network (MBPNN) were tested to retrieve DOC using a filtered version of the recently published open source AquaSat dataset with more than 16 thousand samples across the continental US matched with satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 missions. 3. The Untold Story of Baba Island : Sustainable Livelihood: The Revival of Fishing Community andEcology of Baba Island, Karachi
Master-uppsats, KTH/ArkitekturSammanfattning : Once covered by dense mangrove forest, Baba Island was inclusive of a group of Islands protecting the Kolachi settlement from storms and invasion. Kolachi Jo Goth (fisherman’s village) transformed into the present-day megacity of Karachi when the British conquered and established it as a harbour for trade. LÄS MER
4. Temporal Trends in Dissolved Inorganic Carbon in a Swedish Boreal Catchment
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Inland waters are important systems for transforming, storing and transporting carbon along the aquatic continuum, but also by emitting carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) to the atmosphere. In light of the last decades observed increase in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in many inland waters across the northern hemisphere, a logical question arise whether other aquatic carbon species display similar trends. 5. Traits of peat- and upland-derived stream dissolved organic carbon in the permafrost region around Abisko, northern Sweden
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : Climate change-induced thawing of permafrost mobilizes previously frozen carbon of high potential reactivity, thereby, fuelling microbiological production of greenhouse gases. For this work, an analysis of the quantity, quality, and bioreactivity of DOC in streams from the Stordalen discontinuous permafrost catchment was carried out with stream water samples during the relatively warm summer of 2018.
