  1. 1. Minskning av palsmyrar som resultat av klimatförändringar i norra Sverige mellan 1960–2020

    Kandidat-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :My Apelkvist; [2023]
    Nyckelord :palsmyrar; palsar; norra Sverige; carbon feedback; klimatförändringar;

    Sammanfattning : The climate is changing at a rapid rate. This causes both an increase in temperature and precipitation in the northern high latitudes. Subarctic peatlands contain 30% of the carbon storage in the northern permafrost zone. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influence of permafrost disintegration on wetland carbon fluxes in Abisko, Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Aida Esmailzadeh Davani; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; Permafrost; CH4 flux; CO2 flux; Abisko; Wetlands; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The northern permafrost regions are experiencing a rapid warming as surface temperatures are rising, causing a disintegration of permafrost and a deepening of the active layer (AL). This releases previously frozen carbon, making it available for decomposition by microbes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Traits of peat- and upland-derived stream dissolved organic carbon in the permafrost region around Abisko, northern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Nora Kainz; [2021]
    Nyckelord :physical geography; ecosystem analysis; permafrost degradation; DOC; DOC concentration; stable isotope carbon signature; DOC quality; DOC degradation; Atmospheric Sciences and Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change-induced thawing of permafrost mobilizes previously frozen carbon of high potential reactivity, thereby, fuelling microbiological production of greenhouse gases. For this work, an analysis of the quantity, quality, and bioreactivity of DOC in streams from the Stordalen discontinuous permafrost catchment was carried out with stream water samples during the relatively warm summer of 2018. 4. 4. Feedback effects in the Arctic region and how they affect the global climate

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Miljövetenskaplig utbildning

    Författare :Lotta Nyman; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Arctic warming; Arctic change; Climate feedback effect; Lower latitude weather; Arctic amplification; Permafrost; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic is warming at a rate two to three times that of the global average. Although only covering a small area of the globe, it is a vital component of the climate system. Through climatic feedback effects the warming is enhanced, and risks leading to further climate change. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of Wildfire Burn on Permafrost Landcover and Catchment Hydrology in Manitoba, Canada

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Andreas Andersson; [2019]
    Nyckelord :wildfire; permafrost; catchment hydrology;

    Sammanfattning : Permafrost is a strongly controlling factor on Arctic hydrology due to its effect on ground permeability, and thus surface and ground water flow paths. As wildfires are increasing in occurrence and magnitude in permafrost regions, they may alter the hydrological regime via permafrost thaw and degradation that increases ground permeability. LÄS MER
