Sammanfattning: Abstract This is a study about the role of love for an individualistic human being. The study aims to examine whether our strive to become our autonomous self and the longing for love is in conflict with each other and how it is expressed. The study examines the importance of feeling secure when it comes to love and whether it creates a dependence that challenges our independence. This study is grounded in qualitative method, we take part in interviews with the respondents and their personal experiences about the subject and how it impacts them. The interviews have been performed with five individuals, men and women in the age between 25-40 years old, where they have been asked questions in the areas; love, romance, the individual and relationships. The material is analyzed using theory derived from sociology and social psychology of pure relations, embededness and liquid love. The result indicates that there is a conflict between love and autonomy, which raises anxiety and the uncertainty of the individual. The respondents don´t want to be dependent on another person and don´t want love at any cost. We also see that love creates positive energy and a form of security. In the result it is discussed about love as rational and as an emotion. Love is a feeling that is difficult to structure and control. The lack of control doesn´t always match with our quest for independence.
