Aid Policy in the Post 9/11 Era- An Analysis of New Frameworks & Definitions, Design & Concequences

Sammanfattning: The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of 2000 stands out as one of the greatest manifestation of international consensus. Since then, more than half of the time that was set out has elapsed, and we still find ourselves struggling to join the efforts of the given objectives. This paper suggests that contemporary Aid Policy to a high degree are determined by external factors, such as perceived threats, additional self interest and hidden agendas. This is a directly related to the emergence of security as the overriding goal concerning foreign policy, becoming increasingly real since the 9/11. In the light of the Security Development Nexus and the MDGs the issues of this paper will be investigated, correlating the implemented aid allocation to the concepts of security concerns and the perception of underdevelopment as dangerous.
