The theoretical starting point was the cognitive theory and theoretical perspectives such as empathy fatigue, secondary traumatization and copingstrategies. The conclusions that can be made from this study is that the interviewees identified psychological vulnerability as the most prominent risk in the profession of healthcare-counsellor, with secondary traumatization and empathy fatigue being the most commonly reflected upon conditions. The study also revealed copingstrategies that were considered helpful in managing the risk of exposure, such as seeking collegial support, receiving workplace supervision, and finding a balance in one's workload. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of prioritizing one's own health and valuing professional knowledge to manage the risk of exposure. These findings provide valuable insights into the challenges and coping mechanisms related to psychological vulnerability in the profession as a healthcare-counsellor.
