Nyanlända barn och unga på biblioteket : En studie ombarnbibliotekariers möjligheter att arbetaintegrationsfrämjande

Sammanfattning: he purpose of this thesis were to investigate how children’s librarians work with newly arrived children and young people to create a deeper understanding of how children’s librarians promote newly arrived children's integration process. As a result of migration and globalization it is today a fact that we live in a multicultural society where people are multilingual. For this thesis two research questions were formulated: -How does the study's children's librarians express integration promoting work with newly arrived children and young people? -What integration-promoting opportunities can be identified in the work of children's librarians? The empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four children's librarians. The theory used to analyze the result were the Swedish sociologist Jose Alberto Diaz theoretical model of a multidimensional integration process. The thesis shows that by the study’s children´s librarians description that they support newly arrived children's integration process by increasing the value in four of Diaz's integration dimensions. By encouraging their social integration by being an open meeting places that favor the children’s social relationships and social trust by providing multilingual literature and language development activities such as storytelling. That, as well supports the newly arrived children’s ability to develop and increase their communication capabilities. Important factors are as well the integration properties of the local residential areas where the libraries are located. I also found that the children’s librarians express that they supports the political integration and democratic rights of the newly arrived children by letting the children and young people raise their own voice to participate and make decisions about the development of their local children’s library. The children's librarians and children's libraries will therefore be an adequate introduction for newly arrived children and young people to participate in the community and promote their integration process in the society.
