Sammanfattning: The impact and effects of martial arts on practitioners has been a hot topic for a long time, both physical and mental impact. The purpose of the study was to take part in martial arts practitioners' own perception of how such things as character and behavior have been affected through their martial arts, based on different psychological and psychosocial perspectives. The questions that were answered were the following: How can martial arts affect self-esteem? What general behavioral changes can martial arts bring? How is the view of aggression and violence specifically in martial arts circles? This was investigated by interviewing four people belonging to a martial arts club. The results showed that martial arts can have a great, positive impact on people's lives. Stronger self-esteem and better social skills, was experienced by all interviewees. In addition, the results showed that there does not appear to be a link between the practice of martial arts per se and general violence or aggression. The conclusion drawn from the study was that martial arts seem to be a unique category of sports, where the focus on personal development is greater than in other sports.
