Funktionshinderteorins dikotomi : en teoriutvecklande studie av funktionshinderteorins två modeller

Sammanfattning: The main objective with this thesis is to, within disability studies further shape and chal-lenge the current theoretical models. With a leap out of Tom Shakespeares nuanced per-spectives, his theories are put to test by looking into two different cases to investigate if there are any potential capabilities of theoretical development within these. One repre-senting the Sveriges Dövas Riksförbund while the other group includes the Barnplan-torna, Riksförbundet för Barn med Coachleaimplantat and Barn med Hörapparat. Conclusive implications reveal that the new perspectives which Shakespeare is wor-king to unseal, can be used to both criticize and understand SDR and the main objectives of the Barnplantorna. It reveals and presents how “identity” alters in im-portance to one and each individual, and how it is a matter of subjectivity, which needs to be taken into regard in each case. As such, there needs to be a medical and a social integration present in order to truly understand disability and the future progress of disability studies.
