Sammanfattning: Background: Strength training is often used as a complement to refine certain qualities in athletes, like sprinting and jumping. Previous studies have shown a correlation between squat performance and jump height. However, most of these studies has used quarter or half squat. Several studies done on football and performance have mostly used men as test subject, leading to training recommendations for woman based on male performance. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between lower extremity strength, power and jump performance in the female football players. Method: 32 female participants with a mean weight 60,5kg and mean height of 166,3cm. All participants came from the same football club in the Kalmar region. The participants did a one repetition max (1RM) squat. To assess relative repetition maximum (R1RM) the weights weight lifted divided by the weights of the participants calculated (1RM/bodyweight=RRM). A test of muscular power was conducted where 60%of the subject’s 1RM was used. The aim of this test the explosiveness of the participants. Finally, the participants performed a vertical jump without arm swing. To investigate the correlation between muscular strength, power and jump height a Pearson’s correlation coefficients test was used. Results: A moderate positive correlation was noted between R1RM and vertical jump (r = 0.56, p = 0.0003). No correlations could be noted between 1RM and vertical jump (r = 0.343, p = 0.055) or vertical jump and Power squat (r = 0.177, p = 0.33). A weak correlation between Power squat and 1RM (r = 0.468, p = 0.007). Power squats and R1RM showed a medium strong relationship (r = 0.579, p = 0.001)Conclusion: The result showed a moderate correlation between relative strength in the lower extremity and jump performance. No correlations could be found in absolute strength, power and jump height.
