  2. 2. African Climate Hazard Assessment - A composite index assessing national vulnerability to climate change

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Lunds universitet/Miljö- och energisystem

    Författare :Josefine Falk; Otto Fjelkner; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Composite Index; Climate Vulnerability; Assessment; African Nations; Acute Physical Hazards; Chronic Physical Hazards; Systemic Hazards; Exposure; Multidimensional Approach; Sensitivity; Adaptation; Indicators; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The study is compiled into a composite index for assessing the climate vulnerability of African nations. By employing a multidimensional approach, the index comprises nine distinctive hazards to examine a country’s sensitivity to climate change. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of Heat Mapping Techniques – the Case of Linköping

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för tema; Linköpings universitet/Filosofiska fakulteten

    Författare :Pei Zhao; [2023]
    Nyckelord :correlation analysis; spatial analysis; land surface temperature LST ; mean radiant temperature MRT ; vulnerable population;

    Sammanfattning : Land surface temperature (LST) and mean radiant temperature (MRT) are commonly used as proxies to evaluate urban heat environments. Many scholars use one of them to represent heat exposure when assessing the urban thermal environment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Using a social registry to assess household social vulnerability to natural hazards in Malawi

    Magister-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för geografi

    Författare :Petter Sundqvist; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Household Social Vulnerability Index; Principal Component Analysis; Vulnerability Map; Natural Hazards; Disaster Risk Management; Flood Vulnerability; Social Registry; United Beneficiary Registry; Malawi; Nsanje;

    Sammanfattning : Social factors moderate the impacts of natural hazards, which means that households are affected differently when exposed to the same hazard. This differential impact of hazards can be explained by the concept of social vulnerability, which is commonly assessed to inform disaster preparedness and response action. LÄS MER

  5. 5. LOCAL SOCIETAL CONTEXTS AND URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: A Qualitative Comparative Analysis of 26 European Capital Cities

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Nyckelord :urban environmental sustainability; green cities; Qualitative Comparative Analysis; social trust; European cities;

    Sammanfattning : Based on a sample of 26 European capital cities, this thesis performs a multi-value Qualitative Comparative Analysis to identify what combinations of local conditions facilitate or prevent the transition towards high urban environmental sustainability (UES). More specifically, it examines the conjunctural effect of cities’ relative wealth, the strength of local industrial interests, social trust levels, local climate vulnerability, and the ambitiousness of the national environmental policy context on their performance in the 2009 European Green City Index.
