   Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the consequences of extending the internal symmetries of the standard model with a complex singlet scalar field, are investigated in terms of dark matter phenomenology and the possibility of primordial gravitational wave detection utilizing space based laser interferometry. The scalar potential of the model is constructed with a Z2 symmetry, which allows for the retainment of a linear and a quadratic coupling parameter, as well as a stable dark matter candidate, and an additional non-zero vacuum expectation value for the real component of the scalar field.    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to implement three numerical methods for solving and examining the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE) of the analytically solved quantum harmonic oscillator (QHO) and the, to our knowledge, analytically unsolved double well potential (DW), and to compare the numerical solutions.    Sammanfattning : Previously recorded data of electron tunneling in and out of a quantum dot (QD) is used to extract knowledge of the state of the system. Using the detailed balance of the system, it is shown that information about the electron temperature in the lead Te, as well as knowledge about the degeneracies of the states in a quantum dot can be obtained from measurements of the tunneling rates in and out of the QD.
