Sammanfattning: When a building is constructed close to high-speed traffic infrastructure, the assessmentof the level of vibration in those structures is relevant to guarantee safety and comfort. As long as the number of those buildings is continuously rising, is important to have amethod to evaluate ground-born vibrations that require the lower computational timepossible. The primary objective of this study is to apply a simplified method for calculatingground-borne vibrations in building structures. This is achieved by breaking down theprocedure into multiple steps, resulting in a significant reduction of the overall computationaltime of the entire process. In pursuit of this objective, various Finite Element Method-Perfectly Matched Layer(FEM-PML) models have been developed. These models serve the purpose of calculatingfoundation impedance, determining foundation displacements under the influenceof a unitary load simulating traffic, and providing a reference solution. The referencesolution encompasses the entire soil domain with the superstructure and serves as abenchmark for result comparisons. Then, as the simplified approach, the finite element model of the building was employed.incorporating the impedance at the bottom of the columns and applying the computeddisplacements as a base motion. This model was utilized to assess the vibration levelson the floors. The analysis of the impedance and the foundations’ displacements have been conductedby taking into count a frequency range from 0.1 to 30 Hz.The eigenfrequencies of the building have been evaluated before and after the introductionof the impedance at the bottom of the column, to see how the presence of thesoil impacts the building itself, but also to check that the peaks in the frequency of thefinal results describe properly the building behavior. The velocities of the floors have finally been evaluated and compared to the ones obtainedby running the model that represents the reference solution, to check the reliabilityof the method.
